About
Conversate was founded by Colin Harper, a former Police Inspector with Police Scotland. During his time as a police officer he specialised as a Hostage and Crisis Negotiator, gaining over 16 years’ experience negotiating and advising in numerous high-risk situations in the UK and further afield.
As a graduate of the FBI Hostage Negotiation Program at Quantico and as the Operational Lead for the Police Scotland Hostage Negotiation Unit he collaborated with law enforcement agencies across the UK, Europe, Canada and the U.S to deliver bespoke negotiator training.
Colin speaks of his role as negotiator as being the most intense yet rewarding role of his police service and experienced first hand the massive impact empathy and strong communications skills can have.
He now uses the skills honed as a negotiator to help others develop their knowledge of enhanced communication and thoroughly enjoys seeing the immediate benefits these skills can bring.
He is also a Board Trustee with the Scottish Mediation Network and guest lectures at St. Andrews, Strathclyde and Queen Margaret Universities.
